energy rebates for new hope mnEnergy Rebates in New Hope MN | Can You Get an Energy Rebate for Insulation?

If you’ve been putting off having new insulation installed in your home because you’re worried about how expensive it will be, now might be the perfect time for you. In Minnesota, you can receive rebates on insulation installed in your attic, roof, or even walls while meeting certain requirements. Insulation is excellent at helping you save on your energy bills, and it’s also a great way to help the environment by reducing your carbon footprint. When your home has insulation that works, your home’s heating and cooling unit don’t have to work as hard in order to keep you and your family comfortable. This means that you can reduce your carbon emissions by using less energy and reducing the amount of fossil fuels burned. When it comes time for you to have new insulation installed in your home, make sure that you find a company that offers rebates on their work. You may even be able to get additional rebates if you’re switching from an older type of insulation to a newer one. energy rebates for new hope mn

Who Qualifies?

If you want to save money on your new insulation, there are a few factors you’ll need to consider in order to qualify. Firstly, Minnesota Energy Resources will only offer rebates to businesses that use natural gas heating within their building, and can only offer rebates to businesses that have their old insulation assessed, and their new insulation installed by an insulation company. This new insulation must increase the R-value of your home significantly, meaning your home’s insulation will be more energy efficient and save you money on your heating bill. They also offer rebates for homeowners who are replacing their old insulation with new, more energy efficient insulation. If you’re planning on doing this work yourself, keep in mind that any self-installed insulation won’t qualify for the rebate. In addition, only buildings that have not been constructed in the last two years can qualify, meaning new builds are not eligible. Any rebate received can also not equal or exceed the cumulative costs of materials and installation services. But what constitutes a significant increase in insulation? The following sections will explain how different areas of your home can be improved and qualify for rebates.

Attic Insulation

If you’ve considered improving the insulation in your home’s attic, you may qualify for an insulation rebate. However, not everyone qualifies. In order to significantly improve the R-value of your home’s attic, any existing insulation- if you have any- cannot exceed R-15. Anything over this is considered adequate or even excellent, which means it will not qualify for the rebate. Speak with your local insulation installation company to make sure that any new insulation you have installed has a value of R-38, if not more. This means that your attic will have an increase of its R value of at least R-18. This significant of an improvement will dramatically improve how warm your home will stay in the winter, and how cool it can get in the summer. If you’ve followed all the necessary requirements, and hired a professional insulation company to handle installation, then you can receive $0.30 per square foot of new insulation installed.

Roof Insulation

If you’ve considered installing any new insulation to your home’s roof, you may qualify for an insulation rebate. However, be careful to read the paragraph below to figure out if you qualify. Firstly, you’ll need to significantly improve the R-value of your home or business’s roof. This means that your current insulation (if you have any) cannot exceed an R-value of R-15, and any new insulation must have an R-value of at least R-20. Compared to attic insulation, this means that you only need to improve your roof’s insulation by at least R-5. Because you won’t be living or working in the area directly underneath your roof, the insulation in your roof does not need to have as efficient of insulation as other areas of your home or business. If you meet all the factors described above, you could receive $0.30 per square foot of the new, professionally installed insulation.

Sidewall Insulation

Sidewall insulation is used to reduce energy costs in your home by preventing warm air from escaping through the walls of your home. If you want to receive a rebate for sidewall insulation, you’ll want to start by reaching out to a local insulation company. Insulation in your home or business’s side walls cannot have an R-value higher than R-9. In order to be eligible for the new insulation rebate program, your home’s new insulation must have an R-value of at least R-15 of insulation, and an insulation company must install it. If all these requirements are met, you can receive up to $0.20 per square foot in rebates on any improvements made.
